Mark Goho

Mark Goho headshotMark Goho grew up in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York.  After graduating from New Paltz High School, he attended SUNY Ulster and made a horrible attempt at getting a computer science degree.  Meanwhile, he had be working at a local print shop doing graphic design (a childhood hobby) and decided to pursue a degree in Graphic Arts and Advertising.  After whipping through those courses with relative ease, Mark decided to again change direction and follow his true love: music. Another four years in college at SUNY Fredonia, and Mark would have a bachelor's degree in Music Education and be living in Rochester, NY.

For the past three years, Mark has been teaching music.  First to little kids at an elementary school and for two years now, at Monroe High School in the Rochester City School District.  Mark loves the opportunity to share his passion with so many young minds and enjoys the challenges that teaching in the inner-city brings.

Mark joined the Smoking Hot Pipes in January of 2008 and immediately loved it.  A cappella music has always been a love of his and when Erik Reinhart (a coworker at the time) invited him to join, the opportunity could not be passed up.  Since that time, Mark has slowly gained the trust and respect of the Pipes and when Erik left the Smoking Hot Pipes in early 2010, Mark assumed the leadership role.

In the two years Mark has been with the group he has contributed a number of arrangements to the group.  Such a cappella masterpieces as Panic at the Disco's Nine in the Afternoon, System of a Down's Chop Suey!, Bone-Thugz-n-Harmony's Tha Crossroads and My Morning Jacket's Wordless Chorus are ones that--sadly--never made it to the stage.  Thankfully, Mark has a strong spirit and continues to arrange for the group.  Occasionally he does have a winner.  Currently, I Want You Back by the Jackson 5 is a hit with crowds all over Rochester.

Mark has a wfie, Nella and a daughter, Anneliese that he loves and cherishes.  He is very appreciative of their support and especially of their tolerating 10 rowdy guys coming over every Tuesday night to rehearse.
